Test Pattern
04:28
|
|||
We live our lives on the telephone.
We long for sleep and bleed monochrome.
Our books are all written in morse code
to keep the children from knowing what we know.
We'll never off-board the el-train,
so we'll stare through the windows at the rain.
We'll never honor all the checks that we have written.
We resent the accusation that we're living.
And by the way, don't you know
that it's time to take our seats for the show.
A self-made millionaire, tattooed with a brand name--
they can't tell us apart 'cause we all look the same.
And we're so damned tired at the end
of the broadcast day.
We're so empty,
and we like it that way.
I want to live my life in the slow lane.
I need to waste my days on an airplane.
I want test pattern friends and a farewell toast
when I retire at the coast.
We need a thousand channels to define ourselves.
We strive for limbo, but dream of hell.
We've got broadband apathy and air pollution warnings.
We're still drunk when we wake up in the morning.
We're so goddamned tired at the end
of the broadcast day.
We're so empty
and we like it that way.
I want to live my life in the slow lane.
I need to waste my days on an airplane.
I want test pattern friends and a farewell toast
when I retire at the coast.
I'm gonna call myself by a different name.
I want to freeze at 100 centigrade.
I want a test pattern lover whom I'll hurt the most
to spread my ashes at the coast.
We're so goddamned tired at the end
of the broadcast day.
We're so empty
and we like it that way.

Shut Down
06:04
|
|||
I took the shit that you shoveled, and I took it in stride.
I swallowed every fucking evil and I kept them inside.
You pissed it all away 'til you had nothing left.
Your chances gone-- your number called-- and reckoning is coming.
It's coming fast.
I looked the other way as you threw it away.
And I pretended not to notice as you raped your veins.
Everything that you ever were
has been torn apart and sold for scrap,
and now you're alone.
You shut down. (Forced down.)
You dropped out. (Snuffed out.)
Shut down to the feeling.
Shut down to the bleeding.
I let you tell me that you'd change when you never would.
And you sold me that cared when you never could.
you promised so many things that never came.
And now all your lies are like a house of cards that you can't maintain.
You shut down. (Forced down.)
You dropped out. (Snuffed out.)
Shut down to the feeling.
Shut down to the bleeding.
You shut down. (Shut down. Forced down.)
You dropped out. (Ground up. Snuffed out.)
Shut down. (Shut down kill the thieves.)
Fade out. (Shut down kill the belief.)
Your viral obssession is as cold as iron bars.
Tell me where I should go. Tell me what's too far.
Shut down-- signals out-- fly your flag and become our doubts.
Tucked away in cellophane, you'll wither, pale, and fade away.
Shut down-- signals out-- fly the flags and become our doubts.
You took me for a ride and then put me to bed.
The potential that you wasted caught up as you fled.
You'd wish it all away if you had any hope,
but you've lived too long hating yourself, and finally you've begun to choke.
You shut down. (Forced down.)
You dropped out. (Snuffed out.)
Shut down to the feeling.
Shut down to the bleeding.
You shut down. (Shut down. Forced down.)
You dropped out. (Ground up. Snuffed out.)
Shut down. (Shut down kill the thieves.)
Fade out. (Shut down kill the belief.)

Leave Now
04:46
|
|||
Sometimes I dream in digital.
Sometimes I hate this place.
Sometimes I think that it's hopeless
as pixels overtake your face.
Go. Leave now.
Make your way back home.
Go. Leave now.
I can do this on my own.
Hey, you, misinformation.
Hey, you, empty lungs.
Hey, you, cry for obliteration.
Cry the tune that you wish you'd sung.
Go. Leave now.
Make your way back home.
Go. Leave now.
I can do this on my own.
Sometimes I can see the future
through binary code and loaded guns.
Search the ether for the truth.
Scratch out the math, and delete the sum.
Go. Leave now.
Make your way back home.
Go. Leave now.
I can do this on my own.

This Whole World
03:55
|
|||
This whole world is gonna burn.
This dead town is gonna turn.
The men who lie are gonna pay.
The pigs who stole won't get away.
This whole world is gonna see.
They're gonna stop and stare in disbelief.
I'm gonna make the killers turn and kneel
and feel the fear their victims feel.
I'm gonna tear it down--
swim in it until I drown.
This whole world is gonna shake
as its innocence turns to hate.
The monsters have already won--
they've killed the Earth and blocked the sun.
This whole world is black decay.
It rots the hope and bleeds the day.
I wanna be the source of all their pain
and slash apart what they create.
I'm gonna tear it down--
swim in it until I drown.
I'm gonna rip the pages from your heart--
force its golden essence dark.

Better Off
05:40
|
|||
Once we were so far away,
and I was too scared to say
that all our love and future tense
hinged on sighs and paper plans.
We're better off alone.
Now I can see that
the life we lived is gone.
And the waves roll on and on.
I'm better off.
Once we were so open armed.
All the rains-- all the storms--
beat against the home we built.
Our bodies dry, our well was filled.
Now we're better off alone.
Now I can see that
the life we lived is gone.
And the waves roll on and on.
I'm better off.
All that I can do...
All that I will ever be...
Do you remember all the lines we drew?
Can you see that everything we hoped to do is gone?
Take a ride through the evening fog.
Take my hand and drag me all along.
I'm alright for now.
We're better off alone.
Now I can see that
the life we lived is gone.
And the waves roll on and on.
We're better off alone,
and now that I see you
I can't begin to know
why I can't let go.
Once we were so at home
in our glass house, throwing stones.
Once we were so far away,
and I was too scared to say
"I'm better off."

Tunnels
04:48
|
|||
When we were young and full of hope
we could still feel.
The love made and the hands we played
made all our dreams real.
We do it all--
birthday parties and cremations.
We explore
endless tunnels and sensations.
Life was simple, and our years were long.
We'd so much ground to gain.
We stoked our flames to light the way
and struck out through the rain.
We pride ourselves on our abilities
to plot the course of our lived.
We used to hope for a better ship,
but it never arrived.
We do it all--
birthday parties and cremations.
We explore
endless tunnels and sensations.
We do it all--
contract killings and revelations.
We explore
endless tunnels for inspiration.

Reverse Signal
05:30
|
|||
I opened my eyes and cringed at what I saw.
We've wasted our lives and cannot love anymore.
I know you're afraid-- I know the future is unsure.
Our hands have been played, and we're both at a loss for words.
I've seen the signs-- the writing has become the wall.
I cannot open my eyes. I cannot face them all.
Contradictions collide-- sympathies extend no further.
Concealments collapse. As cold as it is, we're getting warmer.
You're just talking in reverse.
And here I am, still waiting
and wondering if I can
begin to know the lengths to which you've gone
to take me beyond what I knew.
Here I am, still struggling
and hoping that you'll turn to see
the rest of what we always said
we'd do to keep from drifting apart.
I've sewn up my mouth. I've taped over both my ears.
The world has grown in between us and covered over all our years.
All the silence and sin-- we've no seas left to sail.
We've nothing more to say when the hours die and signals fail.
You're just talking in reverse.
Our fear of love is getting worse.

Counting Down
05:51
|
|||
Open up.
Open your eyes.
Take your pills.
I need to know you feel me
coming down..
crashing down...
Drink the night.
Drain the rivers.
Sink your teeth
into the sun and wither.
Slink away.
Shy astray.
The world keeps on turning,
and I keep counting down.
Got the life.
Got the shakes from drinking.
Got a modest disposition
that's slowly sinking.
Got it right.
I got it all.
Open eyes.
Lovely night and failing.
Something sexual.
Sunny skies gon sailing
off the map.
Kill the lights.
The world keeps on turning,
and I keep on counting down
to a place-- to an ending--
that I hope isn't coming.
Twelve.
Eleven.
Ten.
Nine.
Eight.
Seven.
Six.
Five.
Four.
Three.
Two.
One.

Unplug
04:00
|
|||
The season comes undone.
The night is so serene.
The characters scratched into the wall
aren't for those for whom they might seem--
the old man, alone and waiting to die,
the woman whose "goodnight" becomes her "goodbye,"
the young man who finds rest in a bottle of pills,
and the hangman of time and the dreams that he kills.
Help me turn the stones.
Watch me disappear.
Unplug all the nights.
Unplug all the fear.
Another morning breaks,
and I'm in love with the girl from my dreams.
I'm a stranger to you for today,
but only until it fades.
I know that we should sit and wait.
I know what you will say.
I know that we should sit and wait
as they crash and burn the pearly gates.
Help me turn the stones.
Watch me disappear.
Unplug all the nights.
Unplug all the fear.
And then you were gone--
vanished into the night--
and I don't recall
what you said to make it right.
Crying-- crawling-- sun is setting--
how will I carry on when love is
dying-- falling-- disk erasing--
anonymous, alone and breaking.
Hopeless-- helpless-- lifeless-- loveless--
I don't think that I can do this.
Don't recall-- I don't remember--
what it is to feel amidst the embers.
Help me turn the stones.
Watch me disappear.
Unplug all the nights.
Unplug all the fear.
Help me remember you.
Help me dry my tears.
Unplug all my doubts.
Unplug all my fears.
Life and time roll on.
Your candle burnt.
It's flicker is gone.

The End of the Rainbow
06:42
|
|||
There's a calm on your face--
a sadness in your eyes.
I could give you my world,
but it's all black and white.
The silence is ours,
but the moment is gone.
I know that you'll leave,
but you'll wait until dawn.
It's only getting worse.
It's harder at night.
The rain washes over my skin
and swallows me with the light.
Let's swim into the sky--
float to the moon--
sail to the stars.
They'll try to tear us down--
cut off our wings--
keep us from Mars.
And the pills that you keep by your bed...
And the stop signs through which you sped...
We never thought to keep you from harm
as you barreled on-- never looking ahead.
Let's swim into the sky--
float to the moon--
sail to the stars.
They'll try to tear us down--
cut off our wings--
keep us from Mars.
Let's leave it all behind--
escape into the night--
slip into when.
We could risk it all for hope--
see what's at
the rainbow's end.
And there's a look in your eyes
every time you take it laying down.
There's something that that you can't hide
and it's ripping you up somehow.
And all I can do is watch.
And all I can do is wish for you.
You'll never even know my name.
You'll never know how much I'd do.
Time to bring it down again
where the rest of us will see it, too.
It's time to show them what you're made of.
It's time to show then what you can do.
Let's swim into the sky--
float to the moon--
sail to the stars.
They'll try to tear us down--
cut off our wings--
keep us from Mars.
Let's leave it all behind--
escape into the night--
slip into when.
We could risk it all for hope--
see what's at
the rainbow's end.

Breathing Fire
05:22
|
|||
You crash landed in the ocean--
strip-searched with vacant eyes.
I knew that you were hopeless--
worn thin and aiming wide.
Your fragile dreams were broken--
your body dumped naked in the sea,
cut to ribbons with your trust exhausted,
like you'd always wished to be.
Dive.
Close your eyes.
Fill your lungs
with the sea.
Why?
Feed me lies.
Take your time.
Look at me.
Sent off with cheers and champagne
to live amongst the thieves.
I've filled the holes with whiskey
and I've caught their disease.
I lingered in the ashes--
full of hate and breathing fire--
so overcome
with the desire
(to) Dive.
Close your eyes.
Fill your lungs
with the sea.
Why?
Feed me lies.
Take your time.
Look at me.
Swim
for you life.
Swallow down.
Getting higher.
Fly,
serpentine.
Slithering.
Breathing fire.
Your fire is mine.
You'll fit the design.
You'll drown in the brine.
Love, fear, and all our colors--
we can't seem to get it right.
You'd steal to get to heaven;
I'd kill to know your light.
We swam as hard we could.
We tried, and we failed.
Our dawn will never come.
Our ragged ship has sailed.
Dive.
Close your eyes.
Fill your lungs
with the sea.
Why?
Feed me lies.
Take your time.
Look at me.
Swim
for you life.
Swallow down.
Getting higher.
Fly,
serpentine.
Slithering.
Breathing fire.

Home
05:14
|
|||
The time to take away..
The time to live is now.
The light that guides me home
is going dark somehow.
And I don't even know
what I was invited to see,
but I know that I don't care
as long as you stay with me.
We've been out to sea for so long.
We stayed out all night.
We've had our share of run-ins
with thieves and murderers, alright.
Now I don't know what I can tell you
to make it perfectly clear
that everything is collapsing,
so we may as well stay here.
We belong together.
Going on forever.
Will you be there when I get home?
Will you remember me when I am gone?
Will you be there when I get home?
I don't think that I can do this all alone.
